MOKAU-ITI.

It is proposed to hold an aquatic ' carnival on the Mokau River, at the Punt, on New Year's Da'y, and the scheme is being taken up enthusiastically by both Natives and JPakehas. The programme will probably include canoe and swimming races, in addition /to other branches of aquatic amusements. Every facility for a successful carnival is offered. There is a splendid stretch of water and . ample room to cariy out all kinds of sports. The Maoris are entering into the project with enthusiasm, and have already appointed a Committee to arrange details. A European Committee is also to be formed to work in conjunction with the Natives, and arrange a programme. A meeting ' will be held at Miroahuiao next Saturday evening to further the scheme.
