MAIROA.

The fine weather experienced lately has had the effect of drying the roads and once more making them fit for wheel trafflic, and settlers are consequently rejoicing. The district in general is looking exceedingly well, grass being abundant and stock in excellent condition. Some of the settlers have been bringing in stock for their sections, and later on cattle and sheep in increased numbers will be required. A school social is to be held on Friday evening, November 22nd. The schoolmistress, Miss Menzies, has been busy coaching the children for the occasion, and the programme is to be rendered by the pupils.

The road votes on the Estimates for the district have been freely discussed, but it is difficult to learn how much of the amount published has been expended. There is a great amount of work necessary to bring these roads into anything like decent order and we are hoping for the best.
