The meeting to arrange matters in with a hall for the district pwas held at Mr Anderson's residence' on Saturday night last. There was a very large attendance of settlers from all parts of the district, and keen interest was manifested in the project. A strong committee, comprising Messrs Anderson, Elliott, Fitzpatrick, Gordon, Bevege, Northcote and Power was appointed to canvas for support and report to a meeting to be held on December 7th. Promises of support to the extent of over £7O were obtained in the room, and it is expected the additional amount required will be forthcoming in time for the building to be erected this summer. A very desirable and central site has been given for the building by Mr Sincock, and the hall will fill a long-felt want in the district. It is expected to be able to erect a building about 40 x 30 feet.
After the Hall meeting the proposed Settlers' picnic was discussed, and it was decided to hold a united picnic on Boxing Day, the ground being kindty lent for the purpose by Mr Julian. Widespread support has been promised, and the detail arrangements have been placed in the hands of a capable committee. The gathering promises to be the largest and most representative yet held in the district, and a large number of visitors are expected from Te Kuiti. On New Year's Eve a united social is to be held, when it is expected that settlers will [attend from all surrounding districts.
