The Statistics supplied in the Department of Agriculture's Report, are always interesting reading, and the figures for 1906 are now available. Of a total of 343,059 horses in the Dominion Auckland claims 76,815, Otago following with 67,279. The returns show an increase of 16,093 over the preceeding year. _ Cattle increased from 1,810,936 in 1905, to 1,851,750 in 1906. Auckland holds a strong lead in the cattle industry with a total of 452,815, Wellington coming next with 399,174- The sheep tables for the last ten years are given, and are of interest as showing the fluctuation of tfre flocks in different district's. Auckland claimed 859,471 gheep in $97, and this total was increased to" £23,967 in 1899. From that year to igQS there was a gradual decrease, when the total stood at 619, 337. Last season saw a slight recovery the number being quoted as "652,017. Hawke's Bay, Wellington, West Coast, Canterbury and Otago all run into big figures. Canterbury showing a total in 1906, of 5,261,893, Hawke's Bay following with 4,857,640. The highest sheep total for any one year since 1890, was in 1902, when the number of sheep in New Zealand was 20,342,727. Last year the total was 20,108,471, which shows an increase over 1905 of 977,596.
