WAITOMO.
A well represented meeting of ratepayers was held at Mr Johnston's homestead, Waitomo, on Saturday, Nov. 2nd, to choose a candidate for the Waitomo Riding of the Waitomo County Council, to fill the vacancy caused by Mr McCardle's resignation. Mr jas. Dunning was voted to the chair, and Messrs W. Johnston and G. Colville were nominated as candidates. After some mutual arrangements between the two gentleman Mr , Colville retired in Mr Johnston's fa.vour.
The question of raising a loan to widen and metal the roads was then gone into, :and it was unanimously agreed by the ratepayers to borrow. The meeting then adjourned until further notice, to enable the councillor to obtain further information re cost'of widening and metalling. I am sorry to report that Mr McQol}, one of our settlers, has had his foot'cut rather badly and has been taken away for medical treatment. Mr McColl had to crawl for over a mile with his foot cut, and nearly bled to death. The man he had with him did all that was possible to aid the sufferer.
