HANGATIKI.

f3n Thursday evening, the 24th

inst., a most successful social was held in the school house. Mr Methassisted at times by Mr Armstrong and others, ably supplied the music. The position of M.C. was occupied by Mr S. Board, who deserves great praise for his kindness and attention to the dancers. In spite of the efforts of the Committee the floor was at first rather heavy, but after a few dances the common verdict was " a splendid floor." The supper, which was supplied by the local ladies, was much enjoyed. Shortly before supper Mr Methven generously performed a step-dance, which was deservedly appreciated. After supper dancing was resumed, and continued with unabated enjoyment till near 3 o'clock, when the last dance was called and the social broke up, each person carrying away the memories of a happy evening. It is unnecessary to individualise the dresses worn by the ladies ; "but let it be enough to say that they looked, as young ladies should look, pretty, lovable, and intensely happy. The Social Committee specially thank the musicians and those guests who attended from outside districts, and who added so much to the life and pleasure of the evening. The dance is the first held in Hangatiki, and was so successful that it is to be hoped many more will follow. Mr A. S. Board has now his store jp. full swing, and is doing a good and Colebrook have not yet business, but the store, a HEacious iron building, is nearing During the last few days the roads have dried wonderfully, and traffic is beginning again with the approach of summer.
