The Maniapolo Rugby Union's first annual smoke social, which takes ' place on Friday evening, October 25U1, V promises to attract a largo number of football enthusiasts from both town and country. The occasion is the presentation to the Oparurc ("bib of the caps won in the Union competition last season. The Union war. only started at the beginning of the season and the competing clubs are to bo congratulated upon the manner in which the ganio vyas, played. Under great difficulties, with regard to wc;i= ther and bad roads, the country teams in particular have loyally held together and gone to great trouble each week to place learns in the field. Thus it is gratifying lo note that in the opening' season (he premiership has been won by an outside club. There have boon several representative games played by the Union, and journeys to Taumarunui and Rolorun were undertaken by the Union representatives. Although not successful in the matches, it is gratifying to know that against their opponents the Maniapolo representatives always played the game in a most sportsmanlike spirit, and accepted defeat will} < determination lodo time, *• The smoke social wijl als?Pilii% tin?
