MEDICAL FUND CONCERT.

■ o On Thursday evening of last week one of the most enjoyable concerts yet held in Te Kuiti eventuated in Helet's Hall. The concert was in aid of the above fund and was eagerly looked forward to for the past month orlmore, and but for the nasty night a. much fuller house would have greeted the call. An excellent programme had been arranged but owing to the inclement weather and the prevelance of the influenza epidemic a good many performers were prevented from being present. However, the entertainment was a decided change from <he travelling shows which have recently been visiting the district, and the whole performance was a creditable one. The original programme, owing to the cause stated could not be adhered to, and Mr G. Elliott, in a few well chosen remarks, apologised for the absence of those performers who could not be present at the same time thanking the audience on behalf of the medical fund for their kind patronage. Willi one or two exceptions the talent was purely local, and such a production as Thursday night's entertainment goes to show that Te Kuiti is not deficient of vocalists or instrumentalists. During the .evening two different 'orchestras contributed items which were much appreciated, and every singer was loudly applauded. After the concert the hall was cleared and a most enjoyable dance was indulged in, Mr J. Hetet supplying excellent music. The thanks of the committee are certainly due, in no small measure, to the Jadies, who provided very enticing refreshments for supper, and who helped in other ways to make the function the success it was. The exact amount realised is not yet known, but it is roughly estimated that about £l3 will be added to the fund.
