OTOROHANGA.
One of the most successful balls ever held here took place in the hall on Friday, August 16th. The music was supplied by Professor and Miss Turner from Hamilton, and was excellent, and the floor was in perfect order. The supper, which was laid out in Mrs Cater's dining room, was all that could be desired. The committee of young men who, with Mr H. A. Burchell, as secretary, worked so hard to bring the function to such a successful issue, deserve great credit. The hall was beautifully decorated with ferns and drapery, and this, with the beautiful dresses of the ladies, presented a very gay appearance. Mr Osmond and Mr Hyde made very efficient M.Cs. The following are ,some of the dresses : Miss Johnson, Wpretty evening dress of pale mauve - rnousseline de soie, with bertha of pansy velvet, and cream insertion; Miss Wilkinson, pale blue cashmere, with cream trimmings ; Miss Taylor, pretty pink nunsveiling, relieved with cream ; Miss Jennings, cream nunsveiling, cream roses gn corsage ; Miss Cater, cream voile, pale blue trimmings ; Miss Cumpstone, white silk, chiffon trimmings; Miss Symes, white 3ilk evening dress, relieved with car-
