KAEAEA.
A meeting cf settlers, in connection with the proposed Mokauiti branch of the New Zealand Farmers' Union, was well attended, at Kaeaea on the 3rd inst. Mr F. Elwood presided, and certain business, preliminary to the initiation of the branch, was gone through. At the conclusion of the meeting about thirty settlers _ placed their names en the membership roll. The Secretary was instructed to write to Captain Allen Bell, Acting-Presi-dent of the Auckland Provincial Executive, to take an early opportunity of visiting the district to formally initiate the branch, It is pleasing to note that settlers are prepared to give their time on a Saturday afternoon to attend meetings in connection with the Union, and so long as the present keen interest is evinced in the project the success of the branch is assured. I understand that a full meeting of settlers is to be held at an early date for the purpose of discussing several matters of importance to the district.
