FOOTBALL.

The return match between the representatives of (he Maniapoto and King Country Unions is to be played at Te Kuiti. on Saturday next. The ground, which has been kindly lent to the Maniapoto Union by Mr U. Somcrville, is in good order, and given fine weather, a fast and exciting game is expected. When the same teams met at Taumarunui, on July 20th, victory rested with the King" Country representatives after a hotly contested game. In sizing up the chances of the coming match it is safe to predict that whichever way the game goes, there will probably be little to choose when (he whistle blows to cease play. The following will represent the Maniapoto Union : Full-back, Conned; three-quarters, Coburn, Wilkinson, Taylor; fixe-eights, .Held and Moir; half-back, Vause ; wing- forward, Cleaver; forwards, Elliott, Rako, Keeley, Old. Searancke, Holes, Rora. Emergencies: Munro, Pavilt. There is some doubt as to the ability of several of the players chosen for Saturday's match to get away, thee re fore all the reserves arc requested to be in attendance. Mr N. B. Lusk has been appointed referee for the match. A match has been arranged for Saturday, August 3 7th, between the Maniapoto Rugby Union representatives and the chosen of (he YVaipa Union, to be played at Te Awamutu. The game will be played early in the day so as to enable the visitors to return to Te Kuiti the same day. A challenge has also been received from the members of the Held and Turner families to play the Union representatives at Te Kuiti upon a dale (o be fixed. A meeting of the Union will beheld in Mr E. Kerr's commercial room on Saturday evening, at 7oi) p.m. All the Maniapoto representatives are requested to be present at the luncheon which is to be given at Mr E. Kerr's boarding-house at eleven a.m. on Saturday morning. The game is to be started early in consequence, of the visiting team having to return the same day by train.
