STOCK SALES.
The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited, report as follows : On Thursday, June 27th, we held our Hamilton stock sale, and everything sold except one pen of fat steers. Fat steers lightweights from £7 5s to £7 14s, fat heifers and cows £4 15s to £5 lis, forward steers £6 5s to £6 12s 6d, strong calves 235, store cows and heifers 323 6d to 37s 6d. The 40 cows from Mr G. W. Madill were eagerly competed for, the best cows, due to calve July and August realizing £7 5s to £9 ss, others to calve October and November £4 15s to £5 lOs. On behalf of other clients cows at profit £5 lOs to £7 10s, aged cull cows £2 lOs to £3 ss, fat and forward ewes 16s 6d to 17s.
On Saturday,-June 29th, we held a sale at Te Awamutu. Competition was brisk throughout, and everything sold. Forward steers £5 7s 6d to £6 2s, fresh cows £2 15s to £3 lOs, fat cows £5 Is, empty 18-month heifers 34s 6d, 12 to 18-month steers £2, strong calves 255, others 14s to 18s, choice dairy heifers £6, dairy cows £3 15s to £5 2s 6d, weaner pigs 13s to 14s, slips 19s. On Wednesday and Thursday last we held our annual dairy cow sale at Ohaupo, and during the two days offered over 800 cows and heifers. Matamata, Tira.ll, Wairang'i, Waiuku and the dairying districts in Waikato were well represented. Good competition ruled throughout, especially for really sound good cows, and wellgrown heifei's to calve in July and August, or early in September. Backward springers in low condition were comparatively neglected. A noticeable feature of the sale was the large number of really choice 3-year-old heifers, which were mostly sold in lots of from 4.t0 6at £5 I2s 6d to £6 15s, sound good cows to calve -Jilh r and August £7 5s to £9, to calve September and October £6 to £6 15s, aged and backward cows £3 lOs to £5, 2-year-old heifers near profit £3 15s to £5, pens of backward heifers £3 to £4 Our monthly sale at Ngaruawahia on Friday last was a most successful one. The yarding was larger than usual, all classes of cattle being represented, and everything sold well with the exception of small and backward heifers. A few choice beef cows made £7 3s, others net so well finished £4 ios to £5 lOs, well-grown 3-year-old steers £6, strong calves 22s }o 25 s 6d. Small calves met with little competition. Store steers were wanted. Dairy cows at profit were wanted and sold readih r . Backward cows were not required, but there was a good demand for well-grown heifers to calve in August and September. The new yards are approaching completion and will prove a boon to all concerned'.
On Saturday we held a most successful sale of 82 dairy cows and 30 heifers on account of Mr Gordon, Eureka Estate. This well-known herd attracted a large number of buyers from Waikato andTe Aroha districts and neighbourhood, and we report one of the best sales this season. The cows were mostly carrying their 2nd to 4th calf and sold at from £7 lOs to £l2 5s (the best sorts £8 lOs to £l2 ss), a few aged cows £5 5s to £6 lOs, 15 Ayrshire cows £8 7s 6d to £l2, 30 choice Shorthorn heifers £6 to £8 ss, backward heifers £4 15s to £5 lOs, 2-year-old Ayrshire bull £5 15s, sows and litters £3 lOs to £5, sows in pig £1 15s to £2 lOs, slips 15s to 19s, 2 draught geldings £l9 and £26 ss, riding cob £l3 lOs.
