FOOTBALL.
The match between " A " and " B " teams of the Maniapoto Rugby Union was played on Mr Somerville's paddock on Saturday-last. There was an excellent muster of players, and the " B " team played an extra man in the backs. Matters were very even in the first spell and at half-time the score stood 3 points each, in the second half, however, the " B's " attacked strongly and the " A's, " having the misfortune to be deprived of the services of Rehe, who retired injured early in the spell, the sixteen _ proved more than a imatch for the fourteen and the game' concluded " B's " II points, " A's " 3 points. Taken all through it was a stubborn contest and although victory rested with the " B's " their opponets a good fight under difficulties, ihe game was mostly a forward one, and neither set of backs had much opportunity of combined play. Still there were a few passing runs on both sides just sufficient to show that there ai'e possibilities for the representative team in that department.
