THE PROPOSED TOWN BOARD.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —In connection with the proposed Town Board for Te Kuiti, it has occurred to some of the residents to consider how far the Government have conformed to the requiremnts of the Public Works Acts in reference toithe formation of the streets or roads therein. According to a section of that Act all owners of land (in which term is included the Maori Land Board) who sell or lease any part thereof, shall provide and dedicate a strip of land, not less than 66 feet wide, giving access to the part sold or leased. And the owner shall form the street or road so dedicated, to the satisfaction of the local authority. I
am not aware that anything of this kind has been done in connection with the streets of our township, and understand that steps are being taken to ascertain if this be the true state of the law regarding our public roads. Such an important phase of the question is surely worth the strictest investigation. Of course it does not matter whether the Board is formed first, or not, the result will not be affected in lav/. The first consideration is the formation of a Board ; then action can be taken constiutionally.— I am, etc., PROGRESS.
