MANUNUI.

This place continues to show signs of progress, and when the sawmills are in thorough working order, there will be a large wage-earning population here.

New buildings continue to be_ erected, including the inevitable billiard room. It is said that five tables in all will be erected here very shortly. Billiards is a very fascinating and scientific game, but the monotony is apt to become heavy when there is nothing but the click of the balls to enliven a place. Numerous complaints are being made with regard to the state of railway matters here. It is certainly high time a station_ and goods shed were provided. However, I expect we shall have to wait until the _ next section is taken over by the Railway Department, but if this does not happen very soon there should certainly be provision made to meet the ordinary demands of the place. A visit was paid to Manunui on Saturday by the officers of Court Taumarunui, A.0.F., for the purpose of installing candidates. Bro. A. J. Langmuir, C.R., presided, and there was a large attendance of members. The initiation of seven candidates from Piriaka, Manunui, and Kakihi was duly accomplished. The order is in a very flourishing state, and _ a comfortable ledge room is being built at Taumarunui. The lodge has now a roll number ot about fifty.
