AUCKLAND'S FIRST WINTER SHOW.

The first Winter Show held in the northern metropolis opened a! the Drill Hall, Wellesley-sireel, Auckland on Wednesday, May 2.: nd, under the auspices ofthe Auckland Agricultural and Pastoral Association. The idea of a Winter Show was first conlined to a few people, who had some knowledge of the great resources of the province in the matter of agricultural and pastoral products. Once started, the project grew rapidly in scope, until it finally developed into practically a provincial exhibition, embracing industries of every description representative of both (own and country. The Hon. R. Mac Nab, Minister lor Lands, opened the. exhibition, and quoted figures I to show the wonderfully rapid growth of industries in Auckland district during the past few years. The Minister stated that lie was confirmed in nothing more during his recent visit through the North and South, than that the great activities of agriculture would, in the future, be centred round Auckland. In the dairy section, which was stated to be equal, if not superior to any yet shown in the colony, the Whitford Park Factory, Auckland, took first prize for export butter the reward carrying with it the championship of New Zealand. Mrs L. 11. McCormiek of To Aroha, was awarded the championship for farmer's separator butter. In the cheese classes, Taranaki and Olago Factories proved most successful. The Agricultural Department's court was greatly admired and is to be exhibited at other shows. The district courts, comprising Northern Wairoa, Ohinemuri, Franklin and Tauranga repreenled the products of the districts named, and formed a most important and instructive feature of the exhibition. All the local industries, in addition to the agricultural and general farming divisions, were well reprcsnted and, judging from the interest displayed in the initial show, there is every reason to look forward to the exhibition becoming a highly successful annual fixture.
