STOCK SALES.

Messrs McNicol and Co., report as follows: — At our opening sale, held at Matiere on April 19th, we offered just over 750 head of cattle, and although we have no yards there, the settlers had kindly put in a few days' work, and provided a few pens and drafting yards for the occasion, and this enabled all the cattle to be offered in lots. There was a very large attendance of neighbouring settlers, and a number of Waikato farmers also went out. Prices were much in line with Waikato, and, although we did not effect a clearance of all the stock, the majority sold and remained with local buyers. Forward-conditioned 2V2 to 3%-year steers in big lots £4 19s, well-bred 2%-year steers £3 10s to £4, 3-year steers £4 10s, 2-year steers £3 to £3 ss, iS-months steers £2 to £2 7s 6d, good calves 21s 6J, extra choice 2% to 3-year dairy heifers £4 9s to £4 15s, good sorts £3 los, fair 2-year heifers £2 12s <sd to £3, 18-month heifers 303 to 355, six extra good fat steers £9 and £9 ss.
