STOCK SALES.
The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Limited, report as follows On Tuesday, April 9th, we held our third sheep fair of the season, at Ohaupo, and yarded over 8000 sheep and lambs. The prices realised for really good lines of either sheep or lambs, were quite equal to those of our March fair. Only two pens of fat ewes remained unsold at the conclusion of the sale. The . 5000 ewes from Napier we sold in -conjunction with Messrs McNicol and Co., were, undoubtedly, the best lot offered this season, and realised the following prices : —IO3O 4 and 6-tooth longwool ewes 18s 6d, ; 700 4 and 6-tooth ewes 19s id, 650 2-tooth ewes 16s 6d, if7o 4-year-old ewes 17s 6d, 1200 fullmouth ewes 15s 3d to 15s 6d, fat and forward lambs lis 6d to 13s 9d, shorn lambs 8s 6d to 9s 9d, fat and forward 2-tooth wethers 10s 8d to 17s 3d, smaller sorts 14s 6d to 15s sd, 2-tooth ewes 16s 6d to 17s, full mouth ewes 12s 9d to 14s 6d, aged 8s 6d to 10s 9d, 100 2 and 4-tooth Leicester rams, from Napier, IV 2 to 2% guineas. On the same day we yarded over 350 head of cattle, mostly grown steers, from Kawhia and up country. The prices offered at the hammer were certainly low, but owners appeared determined to sell at a reasonable figure. Well-bred 3% and 4-year forward bullocks £5 ios to £6 7s, 3 - year fresh steeers £4 10s, 2 and 2%year steers £3 3 s to £3 ios, 15 and 18months steers £2 2s to £2 6s 6d, yearling steers £1 14s to £1 18s, mixed calves. 16s to 20s.
On April I2th, at Ngaruawahia, we yarded 250 head of cattle. Calves were dull, unless of extra quality. Fresh 2% and 3-year steers £4 4s to £4 17s 6d, 18-month and 2-year steers £2 I2s to £3 10s. forward cows £2 9s to £2 14s, strong good calves 18s to 20s, others 10s 6d to 14s, yearling steers £1 10s to £1 lßs, full-mouth ewes 12s. I * Messrs McNicol and Co., report as follows: — At Te Kuiti, on Wednesday last, we yarded 1050 head of cattle, the majority being steers from 2V2 years upwards. A number of the bullocks, although good framed, and in forward condition, were Holstein cross, and did not appear to the liking of the Waikato buyers. However, close on 800 head were disposed of, the younger cattle, calves, and eighteen months selling much better than the older sorts. Very forward bullocks made £6, steers £4 16s to £5, choice 2 and 2%-year steers £3 5s to £3 15s, 3-year store steers £3 5s to £4, forward cows £2 15s to £3 3s, store speyed heifers £2 2s 6d, 18-month steers £2 to £2 10s, 18-month heifers 30s to 355, extra good calves 355, fair calves 20s.
