TE KUITI.
The Sale of Work in connection with the Church of England, was opened on Tuesday evening last, and was a pronounced success, both from a social and financial point of view. The opening ceremony was performed by the Rev. S. Spencer, and there was a large attendance of the public. The speaker, in his opening remarks, stated that it was the first sale of work yet held in the Rohe Potae, and he trusted it was only the forerunner _of many other such gatherings, which would tend to lighten the labours of the Church, and help considerably towards providing a suitable church building for Te Kuiti. Musical items were contributed by the orchestra and others, including Mrs Porter, Misses Fleming and Melling, Messrs Kirk, Hawkins, and the Rev. S. Spencer, and gramaphone selections were managed by Messrs Roper and Cornish. The numerous side shows and competitions provided endless amusement, besides largely to swell the exchequer, while the stalls were crowded with articles, both useful and ornamental. That a thriving business was done in all departments was evidenced by the takings, the total amounting to well over £6O, and it is safe to say the bazaar was the most successful church function yet held at Te Kuiti: The expenses are expected to amount to about £lO, which will leave a substantial balance of over £SO to go towards the building fund.
