OTOROHANGA.
The bad state of the ford crossing of the Waipa river, at Otorohanga, was responsible for another accident during the week, and the f. rd must have a very formidable lie t of accidents to answer for up to the present. After attending the meeting of the Waitcrno Cor'ity Council at Te Kuiti, on Monday last, Mr John Ormsby (clerk) and Mr McGechie (councillor) drove in company to Otorohanga. When crossing the river the vehicle struck a snag, and both gentlemen had to get out of the trap. The water is very deep at this point, and was over the bottom of the trap in crossing. These constantly recurring accidents show the urgent need for a bridge, as the road is the main thoroughfare between Auckland or Waikato and Taranaki. A petition by local residents is out for signature, asking the Minister for Public Works to have a sufficient sum placed on the Estimates for the purpose of erecting a bridge. Unless the matter is quickly attended to, someone will be responsible for a fatal accident at this point.
