NATIVE TROUBLE AT OHURA.
oA Road Blocked. [Special Correspondent.] A considerable amount of excitement has been caused in the Ohura Valley during the past week owing lo the action of some Maoris, headed by Maiora, in blocking a road. A portion of Native land was taken over by the Government Roads Department, for the purpose of making a deviation and, Maiora objected to the action, as it meant cutting up a portion of his land. When the grading of the road had reached a certain point, MiEarly, who was in charge of the work, was stopped by the Maoris, but after being interviewed by Mr Julian, assistant road engineer, Maiora allowed the work to proceed. The Natives, however, again stopped the work and adopted a threatening attitude. The authorities at Wellington have been made acquainted with the matter and further developments are expected shortly.
