HANGATIKI.

A rather gruesome accident occurred at Hangatiki Station on Mondaynight. A dog attempted to cross the line as the train was coming in and was immediately torn to pieces. It is a pity more dogs in this district are not treated the same, as sheep worrying is becoming quite common. I have heard of one settler having to stay up the greater part of the night in order to defend his flock. A grant of £330 has been received by the Auckland Education Board for a school here. The Board intends calling tenders at once. Twenty-five tourists en route for the Waitomo Caves arrived here a few nights ago. This is the record number this year for one day.
