TE KUITI DISTRICT MEDICAL FUND.

A general meeting of subscribers to the above fund, was held in Uriel's Hall, Te Kuiti, on Wednesday night. Mr Hardy occupied (lie chair, and there were about twenty subscribers present. In outlining th<'work which had already been done, the Chairman announced that guarantors, to the number of close on fifty, had responded to the calls of the canvassers. There appeared to be some doubt as to the manner in which the arrangements with the doctor were to be carried out. So far, nothing had been decided upon, it being'considered advisable to secure the necessary subscribers first. 'J"he: matter of arranging could then be done by the whole of the subscribers, or by delegates appointed by each district. An important point was, that after the fund was established, each district would have a delegate, and the requirements of each locality would be placed before them. A plan could then be formulated, giving effect, as far as possible, to the wishes of each section of subscribers. This plan could then be placed before the doctor, and certain stipulations mutually agreed upon. Some discussion ensued with regard to further canvassing the different districts, and it was resolved that the Committee be empowered to employ a canvasser, if necessary, to work the districts which had not responded up to expectations. The idea of employing a canvasser was to get subscriptions in at the earliest possible moment in order to have the doctor located in the district before winter. It was not intended that the canvassers already appointed should cease their efforts. Mr Harwood was appointed to secure the Mangaotaki district. The proposal to establish an itinerary for the doctor gave rise to considerable discussion, but it was finally resolved that the matter be left open until the subscriptions had been obtained, with the object of having the matter settled by a full meeting, or by delegates appointed from each district. It was pointed out that in any case the whole of the arrangements would have to be mutually agreed upon between the subscribers and the doctor, and the making of any definite stipulations was premature.
