PROGRESS OF THE KING COUNTRY.

Public Buildings Projected. [OWN CORRESPONDENT.] New Plymouth, Thursday. I have just learned from Mr Jennings, M.H.R., that he has received a reply from the Minister of Justice, in answer to the recommendations of the Member for the district, to the effect that it is proposed to erect a building at Te Kuiti providing for a Magistrates' Court, Roads Department, and in all probability the Maori Land Department, at Te Kuiti. The Public Works Department is obtaining full particulars as to the nature and expense of the accommodation required by the various departments, and the Minister expects that the preparation of plans will be put in hand within a reasonable time. Mr Jennings has given very full and careful attention to the various matters brought before his notice by the Te Kuiti Vigilance Committee, and has, in most cases, received satisfactory replies from the departments concerned. The matters of the appointment of further Justices of the Peace, and a Coroner for your district, are now receiving the attention of the Minister, and the necessary steps should be taken very shortly to give effect to the wishes of the residents. The Member also informs me that he has been in communication with the Minister for Lands, who expects to reach Te Kuiti about the second week in April. Mr Jennings will accompany the Minister on his tour through the district, and his assistance should be valuable in connection with the various matters of importance necessary to bring before the Minister.
