TAUMARUNUI SPORTS.
The carnival promoted by the Taumarunui Athletic Assoeialion and the District Cycling Club, was held on the Recreation Ground on Saturday last. The weather was all that could be desired, and the attendance of the public was large in consequence. The programme was a lengthy and varied one, and included running, wood-chopping and sawing, and cycling events. Among the runners, Collerton, Brooks and Foster were the most successful, the former accounting for (lie iooyds, 220 yds and second in the 440 yds, and Brooks the maiden and second in the two short distance events, while Foster won the 440 yds, half-mile, and ran second in the mile. The cycling events were well distributed, and gave rise to some excellent contests. The chopping competitions were, as usual, well patronised and caused considerable excitement. The big chop went to S. Warren and the 20in chop to W- Mitchell, who also secured second place in the lßin chop.
