HANGATIKI.

In spite of .the rough weather, about thirty Natives left this station by the special train, for Ngaruawahia regatta. . We had a heavy downpour of lain on Monday and, in consequence, the Mangaokewa was rising all day on Tuesday. The river then afforded an excellent illustration of the injury done by willows growing in the_ bed of a stream. If some of our political sceptics could have seen- it, they would probably regard the eradication of these troublesome plants in a more favourable light. Unfortunately as labour has been difficult to obtain, some of the settlers have not yet got their seed sown. However, I notice some of the burns are looking green. I have calculated from data received from settlers that the total number of sheep which have passed through this station, this year, approaches six thousand. One is almost forced to cry out, " Advance, King Country."
