WAITOMO COUNTY COUNCIL.

The usual meeting of the Council, was held in Mr Kerr's Commercial room, on March lßth. . There were present: Councillors D. H. Lusk (Chairman), N. I. Hunt, A. C. McCardle, A. Scholes and J. Ormsby. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. CORRESPONDENCE. A letter was received from the Council's solicitor, stating that the proper proceedure to adopt with regard to ragwort and the noxious weeds was to press the Stock Inspector to take vigorous steps to have the Act enforced to the utmost. ■; j The solicitor further advised the Council that the Maori Council had the sole right of collecting fees for the registration of Maori dogs within the Maori Council district, but that an arrangement could be entered into between the two bodies for the collection by one officer for both European and Maori-owned dogs. A letter was "received from Mr B. Hewett, Chairman of the Raglan County Council, acknowledging the receipt of the ci'rcular letter of the Waitomo Council with reference to arranging a conference with the Minister of Public Works, and egreeing to co-operate in the matter. A letter, enclosing a list of amounts for expenditure by the Roads Department in the County, was received from the District Roads Engineer. DOG COLLARS. The following tenders for the supply of dog collars for the ensuingyear were received : —W. McNaught 8d (accepted), J. Erikson 7d, M. Going 7Va dDOG TAX COLLECTOR. Only one application was received for the position of Collector, and after discussion by the Council, it was decided to call for fresh applications, returnable before next meeting. _ Full particulars as to duties and liabilities to be advertised. OTOROHANGA BRIDGE.

Cr Scholes drew attention to the the resolution passed at last meeting that an Engineer be appointed to inspect the bridge before concluding any agreement with Ellis and Burnand; he and Cr McGechie had not taken any steps in the matter in consequence. —It was finally decided that the Council Engineer be instructed to meet the sub-committee and arrange the matter. TITAHI ROAD. A. Ahier wrote drawing attention to the dangerous state of Titahi road since the recent flood, and requesting the Council to instruct the Engineer to inspect and report on the matter. Resolved, on the motion of Cr Hunt, seconded by the Chairman, that the letter be forwarded to Cr Hoffman for him to report. HANGATIKI SCHOOL SITE. Attention was drawn by Cr Scholes to the fact that the road to the Hangatiki school site was a Maori track and had not been properly surveyed and dedicated; until this was done the Education Board would not take over the site. The matter was an urgent one and he moved that the Council should approach the Commissioner of Crown Lands for the purpose of having a road surveyed between Te Kumi and Hangatiki, giving approach to the school, seconded by Cr Hunt and carried. THIRDS FOR EXPENDITURE. Cr Ormsby proposed, and Cr Hunt seconded, that all thirds accruing on the Mangaorino road, Te Kuiti riding, should be scheduled for expenditure. — The Chairman drew .attention to the fact that the commissioner of Crown Lands would not consent to thirds being scheduled unless full particulars ofthe work to be undertaken, and the locality of the same were supplied. The motion was carried and it was decided that the particulars be forwarded by the Clerk to the Commissioner. On the motion of Cr Mc Cardie, seconded by Cr Hunt, a similar motion to the the foregoing was passed with regard to thirds in Waitomo riding FENCED STREETS AT TE KUITI. Proposed by Cr Cardie, seconded Cr Ormsby, that notice be given to all persons who have fences erected across streets in Te Kuiti, to have the obstructions removed at once. MISCELLANEOUS. Leave of absence was granted to Councillors Loveday, Hunt and McGechie. A number of accounts and the travelling expenses of Councillors to date were passed for payment.
