GRAND OPERA. "FAUST."
The Faust Operascope Company gave a performance at Hetet's Hall, Te Kuiti, on Monday night last. There was a crowded audience including many visitors from the out districts. The main feature of the performance, as the title- would suggest, was the representation of the opera "Faust," but the attractions are by no means confined to the chief item of the varied programme. The representation of the opera is a very realistic one, and the scenic effects are admirably accomplished. Other pictures shown included three trick pictures, two of conjuring feats, "The Magic Album," and " The King of Dollars," and one "A Moonlight Dream," showing fantastic situations and impossible conditions, much to the wonderment and bewilderment of the audience. The comic pictures were conspicuous and provided a real mirth-provoking element. A popular variation to the ordinary bioscope entertainment was provided by the musical comedy sketches, by Miss Fisher and Mr H. "Wilson. The piece is entitled "The New Footman," and was very aptly and humorously interpreted by the performers. Taken altogether, the entertainment was a very enjoyable one, and the wealth of variety included in the picture representations, carries the audience from one emotion to another, and when the limelight effects are finished, the musical comedy sketches and songs complete a thoroughly pleasant and ■> enjoyable evening.
