OTOROHANGA CARNIVAL.

The Otorohanga Athletic Club held its annul sports meeting and axemen's carnival on the racecourse on Friday last. There was a good attendance, including visitors from Te Kuiti, Mangapeehi and other centres. The weather conditions were all that could be desired and the contests, especially in the chopping events, were remarkably keen. In the running events Humphries and Rangi Katipa were the most successful, while the presence of D. Pretty, in the chopping and sawing contests, proved a great attraction. It was generally thought that Pretty would win the big chop rather comfortably, but after winning his heat, he had to take second honours in the final, which was won by Flavell with something to spare. The 20-inch chop was won by Tami Rangi, with Pretty second. The winner was in receipt of 45 seconds from the champion, and performed very creditably. A dance was held in the hall at night and a most enjoyable evening was spent. Great credit is clue to Mr Forster, the hard-working secretary, for the manner in which the gathering was organised and the committee and other offiicals all worked hard to ensure the success of the meeting. The following are the results of the various events : 120 yds Maiden. —Rangi Katipa I, F. Julian 2 100 yds Boys Race. —T. Turner I, H. Pourau 2.
