KAWHIA.

I have to cnronicle a very pretty wedding, which took place here on Thursday last, when Mr H. Wade and Miss M. Edwards, were joined in wedlock. The Rev. C. E. Davidson, Congregational Minister, performed the ceremony. The bride, who was gowned charmingly in white, was attended by Miss G. Falwasser, while Mr W, Edwards was best man. A large number of guests attended the wedding breakfast at Mr E. Falwasser's residence, and in the evening a dance was held in Scott's Hall, when about 25 couples attended. Music was provided by Mrs Langley, Misses Trainor and Stevens, and Mr G. Jonathan, and Dr Jenkins acted as M.C.

The road works, which were stopped in this district a few weeks ago, have been resumed, and it is to be hoped will be kept going as long as the good weather lasts. Tennis is in full swing and local enthusiasts are showing good form. It is intended to send a team to Hamilton to take part in the Easter tournament, and if the best local talent is available, we should make a good showing. Inspector Cullen has just paid his official visit to the district. The Kawhia County Council has received eleven applications for the position of engineer. The s.s. Rothesay has taken up the running to Marakopa, and performed the maiden trip on February 13th. The day was fine and the run was most enjoyable. At Marakopa the visitors were entertained at a social by Mr Toomath, the genial manager of the Marakopa Milling Company, and a very pleasant evening was spent. Oh the return voyage the steamer carried 112 bales of flax and the trade promises to be a rr.cst prosperous one. A meeting of the hack racing club was held on February 9th, when it was decided to hold a meeting on March 22nd at Torea. It was also agreed that the sum of £4 10s (balance from the last fsports) should be placed to the credit of the club. An excellent programme was drawn up and a good meeting is anticipated.
