K.C. PERSONALS.

Mr and Mrs Langmuir, of Taumarunui, left on a visit to Christchurch this week.

Mr H.J. Greenslade, M.H.R.,visited Te Kuiti last Friday and returned to Waikato on Saturday. Mr A. S. Laird is mentioned as a likely candidate for the Taumarunui Electorate at next election.

Miss Peat, of Auckland, is now in Te Kuiti post office, relieving Miss Melling, the postmistress, who is enjoying her annual holiday. The Rev. R. Mitchell, of Te Kuiti, leaves this week to attend a Congregational Union at Dunedin. He expects to be absent about two or three weeks.

Mr W. W. McCardle, of Kawhia, is included among the newly appointed Legislative Councillors. Mr McCardle has the distinction of being the first King Country resident to acquire the honour.

The necessary material for the construction of the telephone lines to Mairoa and Aria respectively, is now at Te Kuiti, and a start will be made with the work as soon as possible.

Out of a total of 462 patients admitted into the.Waikato Hospital last financial year, 94 came from the King Country. The next largest number from a district was 86 from the Waipa County. The average individyal's stay was 26.7 days. The daily average cost per head was 5s Bd, the average for the colony being 5 s n%d, or, less patients payments, 4s o%d. In a previous issue of the CHRONICLE it was mentioned that this Hospital Board had expended £3012 for new buildings, and we might now point out that the Board has expended, in the past two years, a sum of £5664 in buildings, and collateral expenses. Old age and Imperial pensions contributed a sum of £2BO towards the expenses of the Old Men's Home. The amount collected in patients fees in the two years, 1902-03 was £7OB, and in the years 1905-06 £2090, which shows a great improvement in that department. The percentage of cost of administration on the total expenditure was 20.75, the average for the colony being 31.4. This Hospital compares very favourably with the others in the colony.
