OHURA.
0 Work on the Niho Niho bridge is now being pushed ahead, and this and the Waikaka bridge should be completed before winter sets in. A number of the settlers are taking advantage of the favorable weathei to burn off, and so far the results have been highly satisfactory. The cleared area should be a welcome increase to the stock carrying capacity of the district, and no doubt the effect will be felt next year. The district generally escaped well from the recent floods, which were not so high as those of last year, the water not reaching within four feet of previons inundations. The most noticeable feature of the flood was the food shortage, caused by the interrupted railway traffice in Waikato, and settlers felt the pinch severely before the train service was re-estab-lished.
