TE KUITI.

After two postponements, on account ot the inclement weather, the Te Kuiti Tennis Court was opened on Wednesday afternoon last, when there was a large number of players and spectators present. The President of the Club, Mr J. Hetet, made a short speech and declared the court duly opened. Play was then commenced and kept up with keen enthusiasm until the light made it impossible to continue, when all dispersed thoroughly satisfied with their day's amusement. The new court has been top dressed with limestone screenings, and though rather trying on the eyes in the sunlight, it makes a good playing surface.

Practically no damage was sustained at Te Kuiti during the recent flood. The temporary bridge in front of Mr Somerville's residence was shifted a little and will require some few repairs. This, with the exception of one or two small washouts and slips, constitutes the whole of the damage. In consequence of the continued wet weather the potato blight has made its appearance and most of the local crops will suffer severely. At Te Kumi it is reported that one Native will lose a crop of about twenty tons, and other patches show the bad effects of the visitation.

The building trade is still very brisk, and it is reported that several new business will be started as soon as the necessary buildings can be erected.
