OTOROHANGA.

I am pleased to report that the river is rapidly assuming its normal proportions, and the flood becoming a thing of the past. On the whole, the damage in this district is not so great as was at first estimated, although the crops on the low lying ground have suffered severely. Mr Ranby, settler, has been a heavy loser, he having lost 119 sheep (not 160 as previously stated) and also 12 acres of oats, and six acres of turnips. Mr Ranby is a new settler in the district, and has the sympathy of all. Some few months ago he lost two valuable horses.

The employees of Messrt, Lllis and Burnand's are hard at it, getting the mill into working order again, and judging from their appear; nee at the end of the day's toil, _ they seem to have a muddy time of it. Mr Northcroft, S.M., holds the first sitting of the Magistrate's Court in Otorohanga, on Thursday, 24th inst. There are several local cases to be tried.

The Secretary of the Otorohanga Athletic Club reports that everything promises well for their Annual Axeman's Carnival, to be held on Friday, February 15 th. Entries are being sent along from all quarters, and judging by the competitors so far, a good day's sport will be witnessed. As the entries do not close until February 2nd, there is still plenty of time for Te Kuiti athletes to send along their nominations. A CLEAN SKIMMER.

The Baltic Cream Separator is rapidly forcing its way into favour with practical dairymen. Sound and durable construction, clean skimming, and easy running, are advantages that will take no denial. Mr Percy Grice, of Warehine, writes that he is using a Baltic Separator which skims down to .03., which must be considered a remarkable performance for a hand power machine. Anyone in want of a reliable Cream Separator should communicate with J. B. MacEwan and Co., Ltd., Fort street Auckland, who will be pleased to furnish full particulars of these splendid machines which are stocked in all sizes both for belt and hand power.
