A NARROW ESCAPE.

What might have resulted in a very serious accident happened whilst a party of about twenty, including several children, were coming back to Mangapeehi from the Te Roa races, on Sunday last. It appears that they were using a trolley, drawn by two horses, belonging to Ellis and Burnand's mill, as a means of transit. Everything went all right until they came to descend an incline, and the driver failed to get the break to hold. Several attempts were made by the passengers, but to no avail, The trolley was going at a terriffic rate, and it seemed as if a serious accident would be the result. At last a Native named Kaku, unhooked the horses, and the trolley went on, and pulled up when it got to level ground. While the trolley was descending some of the occupants thought it advisable to dismount, and in their attempts to do so, received nasty falls.
