OHURA.

The district is now carrying enough stock to warrant an auctioneering firm commencing business therein. At the invitation of a number of settlers, Mr. A. J. Storey, of McNicol and Co., visited Mangaroa and Matiere to select a suitable site for the erection of yards. After going through the district, and taking everything" into consideration, Mr Storey decided on Matiere, and has arranged with Mr Harold Door for the right to acquire about 20 acres of his property for the purpose, Matiere is an easy day's drive from Ongarue railway station for stock, and intending buyers could leave Ongarue after the train arrives in the eyening, and reach Matiere the same night. Also, people attending the sale from a distance could return to Ongarue the same night after the sale. A start is to be made with the work of erecting the Niho Niho bridge, and good progress should be made, with the present favourable weather. Mangai'oa, with the advent of only half-a-mile of metalling, has had new life infused into it, and I hear on good authority that several new business premises are to be erected at once. The new buildings will probably include saddler's and blacksmith's shops and a store. With decent roads in this district things would boom ahead, and with the start of the railway from the Ongarue end a new era would dawn for the Ohura.
