RAURIMU.
An enquiry into the cause of the recent fires was held at Raurimu on Friday before Mr A. S. Laird, district coroner. The jury consisted of Messrs W. McWilliam (foreman) J. Broadhurst, P. Fraser, G. Wilson, W. Payne and A. Lucas. After hearing a considerable amount of evidence with reference to the destruction of McKinley's boarding house, the jury returned a verdict to the effect that there was no evidence to show how the fire originated. With regard to the incipient fire at Stirling's boardinghouse, a great amount ot evidence was heard, most of which pointed to the occurrence being the work of an incendiary. The jury finally brought in a verdict to the effect that the fire under the back part of the house was deliberately caused by some person on-persons unknown. As far as the insurances can be ascetained they are: —On Stirling's, premises, £BOO ; McKinley's, £ss° 5 Love's, £130"
