MANUNUI.

A public meeting attended by about forty house holders, including several ladies, was held here on Saturday last to receive the Committee's report re school matters. Mr Kilpin occupied the chair. The balance sheet showed cash in hand, £39 ; subscriptions promised, £9 ss. The whole on the books is considered good, and can be collected in a day, making a total of £4B ss. The balance, to make it up to £SO, is guaranteed. - It was resolved to write to the Board of Education advising them of the amount we have in hand, and asking them to instruct the Inspector to report at an early date. It was also resolved to petition the Board to shift the Piriaka school to here, as more than half the total number of children attending that school, travel from here and Matapuna, and the train service lis not at all suitable for conveying children to the school.

Mr Mers conducted divine service in the hall on Sunday the gth, but owing to the prevalence of influenza, and the rough state of the weather, very few attended. It is to be hoped next time the gentleman favours us, we will have better weather and less sickness.

Messrs Dunlop and Sarah, butchers, of Taumarunui, are enquiring for a site here to build a .butcher's shop. They intend to make a start after the New Year, as owing to the saw-mill starting we expect a good increase in the population then.
