WAITOMO.
A meeting, convened to consider a proposal to raise a loan for metalling the Caves road, took place on Saturday last at Waitomo, and was largely attended by the settlers interested. After some discussion, it was finally decided by the meeting, that those present were in favour of borrowing, and it was resolved that the necessary steps be taken to arrange for a loan to be raised for the purpose, and providing money for metalling the road from Mairoa to the eastern boundary of section 2, block X, Orahiri survey district. Sheep shearing has been going on apace, but has recently been hampered by rainy weather. The sheep are all in first-class order, which speaks well for the quality of the land in the vicinity. ; The only difficulty now to contend with is the transporting of the wool, and owing to the state of the road this year, it Will mean that most of it will have to be packed on horseback. The percentage of lambs in this district has been exceptionally good, and is fully 100 per cent.
