TE KUITI.

The usual weekly meeting of the Te Kuiti Debating Society was held in Mr Rountree's sample room on Thursday night last. Instead of the usual question for debate an imaginary toast list was gone through and all the members present acquitted themselves creditably, f At the conclusion Mr Sims pro-posed-the toast of: the "Host and Hostess," which was carried with musical honours. At the next meeting of the Society it is proposed to hold an imaginary parliamentary contest for the ManUkau seat. Mr Seymour will be the Government Candidate, Mr Sims the oppositionist and Mr Rountreewill represent the prohibition party. Workmen have been busy during the past week filling in and gravelling the approaches to the bridge over the Mangaokewa river, Te Kuiti. This was a very necessary work, as the bridge leads to the dairy factory, and the approaches were in rather a bad state. Notwithstanding the. rather unseasonable weather experienced during the last week anglers-have been fairly successful in and around Te Kuiti. The fish are plentiful in the Mangaokewa river this season, and. though rather small provide excellent sport. At a meeting of the Anglican Church Building Committee, held on November 14th, the secretary and treasurer (Miss Melling) presented the account of the receipts of the recent concert, which, after paying all expenses, gave the gratifying result of £lB 15s/ The expenses were lighter than usual, owing to the kindness of Mrs Gibson in lending her piano for the occasion. At a meeting of the Library Committee held last week, a letter was received from the Librarian, at Mangapeehi, offering a number of books for sale or exchange. The secretary was instructed to reply accepting the offer to sell, providing the price asked was suitable. . If the purchase is effected the local library will be enriched to the extent of over 60 new books, which should prove a welcome addition to the present stock when the building, to be erected by the Debating Society, is completed.
