A painful accident occurred to Mr Souter, blacksmith, of Te Kuiti, on Saturday last. He had, in company with others, been on a riding trip to Aria, and on the return journey, when within four miles of Te Kuiti, his horse fell and threw him heavily. Mr Souter was badly bruised about the face and was rendered unconscious. He was taken to Mr Plier's camp, close by, and after some time came to and was able to proceed to his home. He is now improving, and should be about again in a few days. The judges of implements and machinery at the recent Canterbury A. and P. Society's Show offered a gold medal for the machine, which, in their opinion, "shows the greatest expenditure of thought and workmanship, calculated to provide the farmer with new and improved machinery, such improvements to have been affected within the previous year, competing implements to be subject to trial if required." The gold medal has this year been awarded to Messrs Cooper and Nephews' " Little Wonder " Sheep Shearing Machine, which attracted great attention at the late Canterbury Show. These machines are obtainable from the N.Z. Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Limited, Hamilton.*
