HUNDALEE-KAIKOURA MAIL.

As will have been seen by the ad vertisement in these columns, tenders are called for carrying the mail from Kaikoura to Hnndalee once a week, and they close on November 12th next.. We have bec.i advocating a service from this end for eighteen months past, and, at last, on, efforts appear to have been rewarded to a slight degree. What is really wanted in Kaikoura and Hnndalee is a bi-weekly mail service which should go as far as Conway Flat, and we shall not be satisfied with the conditions of the contract until we have the mail going from this town to Conway Flat. and vice versa twice a week. The ridiculousness of the present contra.-t is paramount, bur mails Jia ving to go from here jio Wuiau am! thence back to I Hnndalee, adisl ipuieof some eighty | miles, to reach sixteen to the i Hnndalee post office, ami has been j a pni-uliarity to us as well as to the settlers along Hie coast. It is .hoped, however, that the Postal Department will see its way clear to make the service twice weekly, in order to connect with the steamers’ mails as well as those of the north ami south coaclies. AVith the advent of the northern mail running thrice weekly, the Hundalee mail once a week, the establishment of the suburban post and telephone office, with a possibility of a sjmi bl r office at shortly, this residents of Kaikonpa n il] have little to complain of as far as our efforts have, been concerned, We take upon ourselves the credit of having, been ins.tvnmental ju the agitatiqn for these extra benefits, and we feel suret.ijie settlers of tne district, who will bpnefjt thereby, will recognise- Hre voluma 6 ,f po’.WT the Kaikoi ka Star has been m tfiplp iifidat uliving the past eighteen mouths.
