HAPUKU CONCERT.

Although Monday, October Ist, the day arranged for the Hapuku tea ami concert, proved very cold and inclement, it was finally decided not to postpone them, as had been the intention earlier in the day, and so towards evening the Hall presented a busy scene, with a band of energetic workers preparing the tables, etc. Although the Hall was well packed, it was a pity there were more to partake of the good things provided. However, one and all thoroughly enjoyed themselves, especially the youngsters, who appeared to have a right royal time. Disappointment was expressed that owing to the threatening weather the child' ren could not come from town to give the cantata as promised, and at the absence of several other performers. However, a very good programme was got up, and everything passed off admirably, those, instrumental for the concert being deserving of every credit. Mr Comerford sang two songs with great expression, andwas deservedly encored, whi e Mr Edgar Smith’s tw o bass solos were sung in good style, and much appreciated. Mrs Edgar Smith deserves special praise for her recitation, which was very well received. A duet sung by Mrs Gale and Aliss Al. Parsons was very pleasing indeed. Air

Litchfield’s song was given with good feeling. Aliss Dorrie Norton performed two poi dances very cleverly, and evoked hearty api plause. A duet by Mrs Spensley and Air Litchfield was loudly encored, and the Maori hakas, as usual, fairly brought down the house. Airs Spensley sang in a most pleasing manner, and songs were also given by Messrs Jackson and Thomas ; while Aliases Norton and Al. Parsons rendered pianoforte solos. A very successful function was brought to a close by the singing of the National Anthem, after hearty votes of thanks had been | passed to all those who assisted in the concert, and to Mrs McLauchbtn, Messrs Collins and Flower for confectionery gi ven.-(Contributed)
