Collie Dog Club.

A meeting of the Club was held at the Commercial Hotel on Saturday evening, there being present Messrs G. H. B. Smith (Chairman), B. Gilling, (Secretary), H- Collyns, E. Gibson, F. Kerr, F. Hancox and R. Kennedy. On the Secretary reporting that two outside nominators at last year’s trials had not.made any response to his repeated applications for entrance fees, Mr Collyns stated that steps should be taken to punish men who acted in such a way. In racing a man who did not pay the necessary fees was placed on the forfeit list and his name published. The same sort of thing should be done in the case of dog owners who were defaulters. Nominations were accepted in good faith, and nominators ought to discharge their obligations honorably. So as to give the two defaulters in this instance opportunity of paying their dues he would not mention the names, but continued failure would lead to hisi breaking silence on that point. Mr Collyns’s remarks met with general endorsement. The Secretary reported that Mr A. W. Rutherford, M.H.R., andi Mr E. Rutherford had written accepting office, and each had forwarded a guinea ; also that Messrs Pyne & Co. had again kindly granted the use of hurdles for the trials, and Mr Kennedy had been good enough to agree to let the Club have sheep. Mr H. Collyns and Mr E. Gibson each offered material for stakes, the former also stated he would otherwise assist. Information as to the special prizes being asked for, the Secretary stated that Mr H. Collyns’s guinea was for the best all-round dog competing in the three classes, Mr Crossey’s for the dog scoring most points in classes 2 and 3, and Mr Edwards’s two guineas for the dog scoring most points under command in class 3. Mr Collyns offered to sell the privileges without charging commission. Mr Gilling offered a sheep for a guessing competition, on the first day, and it was accepted with thanks. It was decided to get another, for like purpose, for the second day of the trial. The meeting concluded with a vote of thanks to the Chairman. Entries for the Blenheim trials next week close on Thursday next -28th.
