FOOTBALL.

The ' annual meeting of the County Football Club was held at the Club on Saturday evening, Mr Fk. Flower presiding. - The statement of accounts showed a credit balance of 2s 9d. The following officers were elected :—President, Mr W. Smith ; Vice-Presidents, Dr Gale, Messrs W. E. Barton, B. Borland, G. Renner, J. Washington, R. Coneys, I’. Miller, T. Lascelles. Secretary and Treasurer, Mr P. J. Eccleton. Captain, Mr J. McKegney; ViceCaptain, Mr A. Clemett. Committee, Messrs Fk. Flower, F. Renner, A. W. Renner, J. Waterworth, T. Taylor, A. Davies and J. Peoples. Team Selector, Mr Fk. Flower. The question of re-joining the Canterbury Rugby Union was left in abeyance. It was resolved to accept the challenge of the Cheviot Club to play a match here on the 29th inst., and to ask Mr H. Montague if he would kindly grant the use of his paddock ; aiid, further, that the visiting team be entertained at a dinner and smoke concert. It was resolved that it be a strong recommendation to the selector that no player who had hot paid his subscription be picked for a match. Frtnn statements made there appeared to be indications of an impetus being given to football here by the arrangement of matches with a team from the flaxmill and sawmills. It was resolved to issue a challenge to the team to play a match on Saturday next, commencing at 2.30. It was decided to ask Mr West to act as referee in forthcoming matches. The Secretary was authorised to write to the Mounted Rifle Corps inquiring upon what terms the Drillshed could be engaged for a gymnasium. A vote of thanks to the retiring Secretary (Mr J. McKegney) for his efforts in furtherance of the Club’s interests and to the Chairman closed the meeting. The teams for the match on Mit in-day will be chosen from the following :—Club : Spencer, Stove, Clemett (2), McKegney,. Eccleton, Taylor (2), Crysell, Stewart, Monk, Maddocks,Turner, Mclunes, Smith, Inglesby, Veitch, Roberts, Burrell, Parker, Dermott, Morris. Millers : Urn, Barrett, Gray, Boyd, Smith, Laugesen (2), Simeon, Christensen, Friday, Sumner (2), Newcombe, Poulter, Maddocks, Gibson. Mr Montague has very generously given the Club permission to use his ground for all matches.
