Boers Defeated. NUMBER BRITISH GUNS RECOVERED. BOER GUNS AND AMMUNITION CAPTURED. ALSO 100 PRISONERS. DE WET AND STEYN ESCAPE IN STORM. LONDON, Not 9 Robert* cables that Major Generals Le Gallai* and Knox surprised and cempletely defeated 1000 Boers South of Bethaville on Monday, recapturing one 12 pounder belonging to O. battery, one 15 pounder belonging to 14th battery, and 4 Krupp guns, one Pom Pom, one Maxim, all the enemy’s ammunition and waggons, and 100 piisoners. Twenty fi*o dead Boers were left on the field and thirty wounded. Steyu and Do Wet escaped. Detail* of fight show that De Wet was crossing the Vaal 65 miles S.W. of Johannesburg. De Lisle's guns and British centre poured in a terrible fire exploding ammunition waggon and killing 6 Boers. Enemy abandoned 5 Krupp guns and attempted to erois during night. Galling fire was kept up by Le Gallais’ column, which drove Boers towards other British forces. Ram storm saved De Wet from sapture.
