One of Mahon’s Mafeking relief force was struck in the back by a Mauser bullet which lodged in the spinal column of the unfortunate man, who was paralysed. With the aid of the X-rays the bullet was located. A marvellous operation was then performed. A piece of tho spinal column was cut away and the bullet removed, together with a fragment of bone about the same size.
