South-western Transvaal. BOERS STILL TROUBLESOME. BUT EFFORTS INEFFECTIVE. BRITISH MAKE CAPTURES. LONDON, Sept 25 Early on Saturday last 500 Boers belonging- to Erasmus’ commando shelled Elands River station, but the garrison, numbering 200, repelled the attack with rifle fire. Meanwhile Paget, with the West Riding Regiment, two companies each of Wiltshires and Monsters, a battery of artillery and two 5-inch guns, made a night march of 25 miles and captured Ernsmns’ camp, securing, in addition to 12 Boers, 2500 cattle, 6000 sheep and 50 horses. A force of Australian Bushmen, under Plumer, also attacked a section of the same commando, capturing 11 Boers, 750 cattle and 1600 sheep. Barton captured 1600 cattle, 1000 sheep and 17 goods wagons at Krugersdorp. Methuen’s Column. Forty miles E of Vryheid, Methuen eaptured 634 cattle, 3000 sheep and 29 horses. Boer Main Force. INTENT ON HARASSING. Viljoen, Botha, Reitz and Steyn are leading a commando North, of Delagoa railway line, along Selati river, with intention of harassing British lines of communication. Boers Destroy Guns. AMMUNITION SEIZED BY CAREW. Before evacuating Komati, Boers destroyed a Long Tom 98 pounder and Cruesot gun. Boers on the Delagoa frontier, on Sunday, destroyed a number of Long Toms. Much rolling stock, including locomotives and truck loads of Long Tom ammunition, been captured at Komati Poort by Pole Carew. Portuguese Aid to Foreigners Portuguese authorities at Delagoa are premising maintenance and also passages home to most of mercenaries who have left Transvaal. Surrender to Portuguese. Pinaar, with 3000 Boers, crossed the boundary and surrendered to the Portuguese authorities. Men and horses were in a pitiable condition. Inducement to Surrender. Roberts has announced that those burghers who voluntarily surrender I will be confined at Bloemfontein and not transported.
