A letter received from Sister Mary 1 Reginald, of the Roman Catholic Dominician Order ot Nuns, contains the following account ol what betel their convent and chapel at Newcastle on its capture by the Boers; 1 Alter having looted our convent and destroyed everything sacred therein, the Boers vented all their rage on the chapel, breaking statues and crucifixes, destroying pictures and then trampling them under toot. It is awful to think ot the fiendish desecration they carried on in the house ot God. And this is i but the literal truth. It may not be generally known, but it is a fact that by Kruger and his Government the Catholics are haled, and but lor the Imperial Government we would be liable to be sent out of the country. No wonder we honour the brave men who fight in our defence and nobly fall in repelling the invader.*
