Justice Foster has resigned. He will be succeeded by Simpson, Attorney General, Want taking the latter position. A return asked for in Legislative Assembly as to retrenchment made bv late Ministry, shows that on plea of retrenchment 372 officers were dismissed, while 1578 were appointed. Report has caused a mild sensation PERTH (W. A.), Dec 17 Supreme Court has given decision in favour o! Eurle, who claimed onefifth share in Dunn Bros’, find in the Coolgardie district. Dunns have given notice of appeal.
Typhoid epidemic is raging at Coolgardie. It carries off on an average a victim daily. Bodies are put into old boxes, and buried without record. Stench coming from the cemetery is dreadful, owing to fact that bodies are only buried about 2ft under sand.
Beneficial rains have fallen in the Coolgardie district, and dams have been filled. One inch fell in 24 hours. MELBOURNE, Dec 17
There was split in Cabinet over the taxation proposals, as result of which Sir F. Sargood, Minister for Defence, has resigned from the Ministry. He opposed increase in exemption, and also disagreed with methods adopted bv the Government in presenting Taxation Bill. J hese methods ho considered were infringement of rights of Legislative Council.
The Premier, in accepting Sargoud’s resignation, wrote to him stating he was surprised that so old a Parliamentarian as he should have sent a copy of letter containing his resignation to the Press for publication. Knowing taxation intentions of Ministry, he should have declined to join Govt in first instance.
